Tasha's story:
Tasha is a nine-year-old cat from Birmingham. According to her keepers, she had been poorly the day before she went missing. This led them to believe that she had passed away when she could not be found, which was heartbreaking news to the family. Although, they didn't want to leave anything to chance and still made every effort to find their cat. As a timid cat, Tasha never wandered far from her keeper's home. This meant that it was never hard to call for her to come back indoors. This time was different, and despite several members of the family calling for her, there was no response. The keepers also posted flyers in nearby homes. However, they received no positive sightings of her. The disappearance of Tasha was devastating to the family, especially as they believed she had passed away due to how she was feeling just before going missing. The effects were so great that the keepers had to move some her belongings out of sight as they became too painful to look at.
Despite the dwindling hope of the keepers, they made sure to update their details on the Petlog website just in case Tasha was still out there. This may have been crucial in the reunification of Tasha as seven weeks after she first went missing, she was handed into a local vet. The chip was scanned, and the vet was able to make contact with the keepers. Had the details not been up to date, the reunification may have been delayed or worse, it may never have happened.
The keepers were overcome with emotion when they first heard the news and received Tasha back with no significant injuries. She had only lost 1kg during her time away from home. The keepers advise others to never give up when looking for their lost pets as there is always hope. They also advocate microchipping your pet as they have seen it work for others and have now seen it work in their favour.
Keep your details up to date
Ensuring that your pet's details are up-to-date is crucial in increasing the chances of a successful reunion in case they go missing.
To facilitate this, we provide a Petlog Premium package, available for a one-time fee of £19.95. With our Petlog Premium package, pet keepers can conveniently update their records as frequently as needed throughout their pet's lifetime. This works out to be less than £2 per year, a small price to pay for the peace of mind that comes with knowing that your pet is more likely to be safely returned home if it ever goes missing.
Microchipping will be a legal requirement for cats in England from 10 June 2024 and owners must register and keep contact details up to date on a microchipping database. If your cat is registered with Petlog, please check your details are up to date now.
If you haven’t created an online account with us since our March 2021 website upgrade, please do this before 10 June 2024.
